Imagine the following:

It’s a crisp evening, and you’ve gathered with family and friends under your pergola for a delicious outdoor meal. The sun begins to set, casting a soft glow over the table, and the conversation is flowing effortlessly. But as the temperature starts to drop, there’s no need to cut the night short. With the gentle warmth from your patio heaters, the chill in the air disappears, and everyone can continue enjoying the evening without discomfort.

Should I choose an electrical patio heater or a propane heater?

When deciding between electric and propane heaters for your pergola, it’s important to consider the pros and cons of each:

  • Electric Patio Heaters:
    • Pros: Electric heaters are more energy-efficient and provide a consistent level of heat. They’re also easier to install permanently, making them ideal if you plan to use your pergola year-round. They are safer for covered areas since they produce no flames or emissions.
    • Cons: Installation may require professional help, especially if you opt for a 240V system. You’ll need adequate electrical capacity, which might increase installation costs.
  • Propane Patio Heaters:
    • Pros: Propane heaters are portable, allowing you to move them around as needed. They’re great for quick setups and don’t require any electrical installation. The mesmerizing spiral flame designs on some models can add ambiance to your space.
    • Cons: Propane heaters are less efficient than electric heaters and require refilling propane tanks. They’re not recommended for enclosed pergolas or areas without good ventilation.

Do I need 1 or 2 electric patio heaters for my pergola?

1 patio heater is good for a simple layout. 2 is great for every layout.

Considering that infrared heat is felt when directly under the heater, we recommend making sure the coverage offer by the heater is not blocked by an obstacle.

Let’s see a few layouts.

For a simple sitting area like the one in the image above, a single heater offers the desired coverage.

When adding more siting options or a table, we recommend adding a second heater to ensure the proper coverage

What power do I need for my patio heater system?

When electrical capacity allows it, we recommend heaters of at least 3kW for the best comfort in our Canadian climate with a standard usage for fresh spring and summer nights. If you are looking to maximize the usage of your pergola, adding a second heater will provide the heat needed to extend at maximum your comfort.

Should I choose a 120V or a 240V heater?

Electric patio heaters are usually 240V since they allow to increase the power of a heater. Smaller heaters are available in 120V.

If you are limited to 120V, here’s our recommendation

Cosy (1,500 W)

A robust, compact and powerful radiant heater - Ideal for residential patios and under Awnings and Gazebos.

This heater allows to maximize our comfort with a 120V single electrical outlet.

Do I need a control for my heater?

Control and modulation of your heaters is a key to ensuring the best comfort.

We recommend adding a control for each system including 3kW of heat and above.

Most economical control

If your heater has 2 elements such as the CD-4024, you can opt for the duplex stack switch. This control allows to operate each heater at 0%, 50%, or 100% intensity.

Popular control

For heaters at 3kW and below, the INF regulator gently cycles the heater on/off at regular intervals when not on full power.

All-in control

Wanting the best control for your system, the custom panel control offers to fully modulate your system with an array of control options. Description
